PAUL - Project 5 - Thursday's 15:30 to17:00

Hi Guys,

I hope everyone  and their families  are well.

Hi Guys! Paul here...

The first week we did a listening, last week some phrasal verbs, so this week we are looking over some grammar we've practiced recently.

THE PAST SIMPLE & PAST CONTINUOUS

Look and read through the first attachment showing  examples of how  we use the two  tenses.

But first remember:

PAST CONTINUOUS  shows an action lasted for a period of time in the past.
Eg I was shaving( afeitando). The men were singing.

The second action is a short action that has interrupted the first. So for this we need past simple Eg. The dog barked at a cat. The woman screamed.

So:

I was shaving, when the dog barked at a cat.
The woman screamed because  she saw a mouse while  the men were singing

The regular past simple is formed using 'ed' and the past continuous is formed using was/were  + verb ( base form or 1st column) + ing

After you have looked through the examples on the first attachment, please complete the worksheet  in the second attachment.

Some questions  you might only need to use the past simple, look to see if  the actions are finished, or one completed action follows another .
